The Denial of Reality Through Spiritual Belief

Identifying consciousness with rainbows, babies, flowers, sunsets, baseball games, and puppies is common. But few are they who utter the forbidden truth — the horror of consciousness. I will explain this horror and offer answers on how to deal with reality from an awakened perspective.

Decades ago, when I began exploring the channeled teachings of Ramtha, Kryon, Bashar, and Seth, I had no idea where the idea of "infinite possibilities" would lead. I assumed the universe would give me anything I asked for as long as I believed I was creating my reality. But over and over, I ran into limits and disappointments I could not understand.

With great trepidation and curiosity, I came across the idea of consciousness being a horror rather than a blessing. All that was required was a marathon of nature documentaries to behold the depressing truth that half of nature was eating the other half. A further commitment to the "Faces of Death" series solidified my initiation into the wicked truth.

Life is a momentary glimpse of the wonder of this astonishing universe, and it is sad to see so many dreaming it away on spiritual fantasy.

— Carl Sagan

This experience spawned new questions: Do humans obsess over consciousness and storytelling to avoid reality? Is the truth a horror too devastating for consciousness? Do humans use their imaginative sorcery to weave reality into a dream?

The Spiritual Story Escape Hatch

Considering the extent to which spiritual stories dissociate believers from reality. The statements below are stated as fact in channeled teachings and accepted without question because the desire to 'believe" (escape) is so strong.

Here are a few New Age examples:

Spiritual beings, on the deepest level, choose everything. Their birth, life situations, and even death are all intended experiences for learning in the earth school.

All suffering, such as rape, molestation, and genocide, are chosen experiences by the spiritual being through their earth vehicle (the body).

Despite Buddha's admission that "all life is suffering," the denial of consciousness through redirection (spiritual bypassing) is chronic in the metaphysical community. The physical universe is reduced to an illusion, and our bodies are nothing more than "earth suits."

Take me Anywhere but Planet Earth.

So why are humans drawn to such reality-denying memes? One could say it's simply our native wonderment and curiosity. Sure, that's a given, but these irrational belief systems point to deeper issues.

For starters, let's consider the effects of generational child abuse. Rather than deal with one's real-life story and the painful memories that haunt the present moment, it's far easier to entertain a belief system that denies reality altogether.

Alien abduction stories are another method for escaping the mundane. The desperation runs so deep that even a negative experience that lifts us "off the planet" is better than staying here. This fascination with UFO abductions is another form of dissociation.

Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

— 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Spiritual dreamers want relief from the abyss of their unconscious. The psychological shadow haunts their happiness, so they double down on life's illusions. They want to ascend, transcend, or rapture to meet Jesus in the sky, but they don't want to descend into truth.

And yet, the magic formula for spiritual awakening is the process of truth-realization.

What is Truth-Realization?

You don't ascend to enlightenment until you descend into the brutal truth of your life. That's what being truth-realized is all about, confronting reality and experiencing the calm aftermath of the storm. It is pulling the weeds of delusion from your psyche one lie at a time.

But who wants to enter the cave and meet their father (Luke Skywalker)? Who wants to confront the blasphemous dweller on the threshold? Who dares turn and face their shadow when they can reach toward the light like a moth to a flame?

Projection, Deflection, Denial — Escapism.

Hollywood provides spiritual escapism. Dreamers watch acts of violence, revenge, and drama and walk out of the theater, leaving their shadows on the movie screen. You don't have to own it if you can see it outside of yourself. Just keep going to the movies to keep the attention away from your shadow.

In The Wizard of Oz, the man behind the curtain invents a convincing illusion of the great and powerful Oz, who is nothing but a phantom designed to distract Dorothy from the terrifying truth — that it was a human deluding the masses behind a mask. That is the kind of truth people don't want to hear. They prefer believing in magical powers so they can blame or whisk away their suffering through fantasy.

The meat counter in the supermarket is another example. That bloody, fleshy meat looks like candy to the average shopper. But imagine if they had to kill the bovine themselves and come face to face with their ravenous animal lust? Better to watch it on the big screen — projection, deflection, denial.

Where Does Reality Denial Start?

Child dreamers are stalked from an early age by the limits of reality. The young mind is full of possibilities until it bumps into the unthinkable. The cycle starts with a cut on the finger, a dog bite, a weird urge to kill a bug, being abused by a caregiver, or a parent dying in a car accident.

The child succumbs to a state of death denial as a survival mechanism and begins the process of dissociation. She will retreat into her imagination for safety and story-building to combat situations she is powerless over.

This defense mechanism gives way to cognitive dissonance — the world is safe, the world is a horror. Thus, the confusion gets more profound, the adult child becomes more desperate, and eventually succumbs to invisible friends and spirit worlds, i.e., heaven, hell, Jesus, ascended masters, etc.

But that's why religions and spiritual systems have flourished; they are the manufactured denial machines of the masses. But they are the counterfeit of the inner ecosystem of the human psyche. That is where true spirituality lies, not in paranormal stories.

The Inner Child and Invisible Parent

I wondered why consciousness was at the heart of New Age teachings. Consciousness this, consciousness that. I knew it was a repackaged form of God from older traditions, but what was the obsession? Why the fixation on a force watching everybody through everybody's eyes? Is there some profound value in being seen aside from the mammalian recognition of a shared species?

The desire to "be seen" is a primary human need. Look at social media, where every face gets a platform to be watched, heard, and liked. The self-help industry has made billions to make up for poor parenting.

As children, we felt that our parents saw everything and knew everything. As adults, spiritual seekers reach out to God as the parent they never had. The All-Seeing-Eye grants the illusion of a "safe space" in one's tetrahedral bubble.

This cosmic parent is always present with the inner child within the adult child. Because this maternal presence is unconditionally loving, it draws the seeker unknowingly into delusion. Grandiose invisible parents are used to suppress the emotional truth of their lives because the pain is swelling within — they need a potent distraction.

But Wait a Minute, Who's in Charge Here?

But if it is true that a God is a consciousness in all places observing human affairs, then it must, by definition, be conscious of the HORRORS of humanity. For example:

Why isn't something done if God watches all these events? Is God waiting for humans to join in its existential voyeurism? Why do we have to wait until we go to an invisible place called heaven to find relief?

If there is a God consciousness, when will it stop natural disasters? You know, like totally stop evolution? No more volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, or incoming comets? Will heaven be immune to sandstorms?

Even so, spiritual radicals would argue that ANYTHING is possible with the help of their spiritual storytelling. This is the child-mind intoxicated with New Age ideology. It acts just like a drug, inducing the chemicals of hope.

Humans, especially trauma survivors, have every reason to indulge in fantasy and shield their consciousness from reality. They must intoxicate themselves with false hope by reducing physical reality to an illusion. The more they validate their delusions, the farther down the rabbit hole they go — they must live a lie to survive.

In many cases, maybe most, they never become who they are — the seed self. They go to their graves unrealized, having never bloomed, and die a shell of their true selves.

It is easy to dissociate from reality and deflect the world's problems. Leave it to our cosmic parents and send thoughts and prayers. But the terrible truth will not go away by wishful thinking. Change happens through the power of imagination and action. If more people were to use their dreaming powers to solve problems rather than invent elaborate fantasies to escape them, we just might have a better world.

How Reality Wakes You Up

Humans either wake up or remain asleep. They either deal with the truth or double down on the lies. Both options build momentum over time and become the fruit of their lives.

There are several ways this unfolds:

1. People run into the hard knocks of life and become angry and arrogant. They develop a narcissistic personal philosophy and become ideological bullies. They are trapped in their rebellious teen years projecting unresolved anger. Through bitterness, they become micro tyrants.

2. Others cave into futility at the shocking realization that the universe is not watching out for them nor passing out rewards for good deeds. A tantrum may occur in the form of resistance to science and facts by doubling down on the spiritual story until reality shatters their convictions or they die wrapped in fantasy.

3. Then there are those who grow into adults and realize the universe is indifferent to their existence. They become aware that THEY are the consciousness of their lives. Armed with the humble admission that the road ahead leads to their extinction, they live life fully at the moment.

The Good News is Real Change Can Happen.

Effective change can happen when we take action and recognize our tendency to escape reality. We must start by recovering the truth of our lives, and extend that authenticity outward.

Here are a few ideas for improving the world.

If you want hope, find or create a real-world reason for hope. If you base your hope on falsehoods, you will deepen your delusions. Better to be honest, come down from the "hope drug," go through your dream withdrawals, and wake up a truth-realized human being.

I Recommend BioSpirituality and Mysticism

The experience of a mystical union is an organic, natural phenomenon. My understanding of mysticism is grounded in physical reality and defines supernatural phenomena from an earth-based perspective. For instance, the kundalini energy of eastern traditions is an evolutionary process. It is located within the human spine and intimately connected with emotion and spiritual visions. I use the term "psycho-emotional energy" to emphasize spirituality as biology.

Bio-Spirituality means body-based spirituality. It is another way to define and experience all spiritual, paranormal, occult, and psychic phenomena from a natural perspective. it is free from the belief that the "spirit" is separate from the body and exists in an alternate universe. This is unnatural, dualistic, and causes dissociation.

My two favorite quotes from Joseph Campbell's best-known work for his book 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' goes as follows:

"The spirit is the bouquet of nature."

"The idea of the supernatural as being something over and above the natural is a killing idea."

— Joseph Campbell

You are a living, breathing expression of life, a human being aware of being aware. When you become nothing, you position yourself for the priceless insight that you are part of everything in a vast evolutionary continuum. Indeed, we are stardust.
